The “Zola Goods” Edition

July 22, 2009 from Glenn Croston
Founder of Starting Up Green
www.StartingUpGreen.com

Author of “75 Green Businesses”

Hey greenies, Glenn Croston here, bringing you the latest and greatest Blast, sponsored by Zola Goods.  Direct sales are an up field in down times, and being green with Zola Goods is an extra boost.

Zola Goods

If necessity is the mother of invention, there is a lot of invention going on right now, with people reinventing themselves left and right to find a new path in their lives.  Though they’re loaded with motivation, many people seeking green businesses to start are short on cash and time.  Zola Goods provides an answer with a direct sales opportunity bringing green products and information directly to consumers.

Founded by Beth Remmes, Zola Goods works through Coordinators who organize parties for groups wanting to go green in their homes.  So far there are 30 Zola Goods Coordinators across the country. “There are many people who are interested in the environmental movement, but they don’t really know where to start or how they can make a difference”, said Remmes. With a mix of education, and products that green the home, coordinators of Zola parties help to meet this need, bringing green to the masses. Zola Goods offers a wide range of products, focusing on affordable eco-friendly alternatives to everyday products.

The items they offer include those that reduce  (such as water and energy savers); items that are reusable (shopping bags); and also items that are made from recycled material (such as recycled paper note cards). Recently they added a neat stainless steel water bottle that comes with its own filter (reminds me of Opportunity # 51 in 75 Green Businesses).  Coordinators are often moms seeking income and flexible hours, people who are seeking ways to get involved in the green business revolution without turning their lives upside down.  The start-up cost for a Coordinator is only $149 for a kit containing a number of items that can be used in daily life and for demonstrations at parties.  The kit also includes all of the training materials needed.

The market for green is still wide open, barely scratching the mainstream.  Zola’s model is bringing green to more mainstream consumers, and helping entrepreneurial individuals join the green business world as well.
